The United Nations Orchestra: 70 Musicians Performing for Peace

The United Nations Orchestra was created with the intention of using symphonic music to support humanitarian efforts, and to broaden the audience for classical music. The Orchestra gives 6 to 8 concerts per season.

Antoine Marguier, Artistic Director & Co-Founder, brings his 20 number of years as professional conductor to achieve highest standards of musical excellence.

In March 2016, the Orchestra celebrated 5 years of its gift of music since its inaugural concert of March 20th 2011 at the Théâtre du Léman, with the theme “Music for Peace”.

To date, it has given over 30 concerts in 5 years, with CHF 170’000 raised for 10 charities.

Born of the personal commitment of its two co-founders and musicians, all volunteers, the Orchestra has become a symbol of sharing and intercultural awareness, embodying the spirit of the United Nations and its values.

The Orchestra contributes to Geneva’s international reputation. It is mostly comprised of 70 talented non-professional musicians who work at the UN and other Geneva based international organizations. All are motivated and united by the desire to strive for excellence in music and to defend the values of the UN and international Geneva.

It has represented International Geneva at many official events, including at CERN, UNCTAD, UNHCR, UNICEF, the bicentenary of the entrance to Geneva to the Confederation, and has also performed in Zurich and Madrid.

Renowned soloists appearing with the Orchestra at Victoria Hall, have included Khatia Buniatishvili, Alessandra Conunova and Camille & Julie Berthollet.
